The University
of Lethbridge, LETHBRIDGE, Alberta, was founded in 1967. It is centered on
students and offers programs from undergraduate arts and sciences, education,
fine arts, management and health sciences. Its relatively small classes and
teaching focused on the General training are what characterizes the University
of Lethbridge. All undergraduate students take general education courses in the
fields of fine arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences. The University
of Lethbridge is a "destination University" and about 65 per cent of
students attending campus come from outside the city. School of graduate
studies was founded in 2001 and since then graduate listings are constantly
increasing. In addition to offering master's degree programs in arts, science,
education, management, counseling, fine arts and music, the University
inaugurated its doctoral program in 2001 and gave the first degree in 2004.
The University
is the University section of Lethbridge Junior College (now Lethbridge
College). In 1971, she settled on a new campus of 185 ha on the West Bank of
the Old man River. Designed by Arthur ERICKSON, the main building of the
University, first teaching building, overlooking the River in the spirit of
harmonization with the Prairie horizon. Since 2001, the number of students
increased from 7,000 to almost 8 500, over 500 of whom are graduate students.
The original campus in flows “West of Lethbridge has experienced growth and a
considerable development, but the University also added a new building in
downtown Lethbridge to strengthen his ties with the local community, and it has
expanded its campuses in Calgary and Edmonton, devoted to part-time management
students.
The University
is recognized for its innovation in university teaching. Their Native American
study major was one of the first offered to the Canada and the institution also
offers a bridging program participation students Métis, Inuit and first
nations. From the Bachelor program of new media arts (Fine Arts in New Media),
students use digital computer media to create animations, three-dimensional
models and special effects in a new age blend of art, theatre and music.
Bachelor of Health Sciences - addiction is an innovative program offered by the
Faculty of health sciences, while the master's program in counseling offered by
the Faculty of education is one of the first of its kind. International Affairs
include a number of active exchange programs, including those offered by the
Faculty of management in the context of its specialization in international
management. Latest University research initiatives include the Canadian Centre
for behavioral neuroscience, the Alberta Water and Environmental Science
Building, and Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy. Although it
started as an undergraduate institution, the University is becoming a
multi-purpose University focused more and more on research and graduate
studies. Its motto is "Fiat lux" ("be light") and the
University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are blue and gold.
